I'm Sick And Tired of Michael Jackson! Other People Died Yesterday Too!

Yes, media attention seems to focus more in the last 48 hours on the death of Michael Jackson when another media superstar, Farrah Fawcett, died the same day. The media view of Jackson, 50, makes the family act like LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. A lot of attitude and no remorse for their actions. Jackson's life was skewed from day one, especially during the days of rumored child molestation at the Neverland ranch.

Fawcett, who made her break in Charlie's Angels, died at age 62 of anal cancer (NOTE: a bit awkward, since we have never really heard much about this!). But she was pushed to the side when news of Jackson's death popped up in breaking news headlines. Yes, for several weeks, Fawcett has been on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight and other TV tabloid shows and was in her own documentary about her battle with cancer.

Jackson, however, with his constant badgering by the paparazzi, managed to not be seen. His popularity struck the ranks of pop music to be considered "the king of pop". He couldn't exactly take away "the king of rock and roll", a title still held by the late Elvis Presley, but his girly-like behavior could take "the queen of pop" title from Madonna.

I just don't know. I think Fawcett was more popular than Jackson. That's just me. You decide for yourself...

I Get So Irritated At Internet Filters!

14% of all public libraries across the United States and Canada block sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other social networking websites. Only 4% are linked to the same network as the school district and not the local library network system.

In a 2007 networking study, it was found that 59% of all libraries who block these sites resulted in more viruses than those who didn't. It was also discovered that 1% of those who didn't block these sites resulted in a virus-infected computer.

In late April, a southern Illinois public library did an inquiry for viruses on their 42 computers, which had a filter blocking social networking websites. This three-day inquiry showed that the computers had a combined 107,515 viruses circulating through the network. It took nineteen days and $9,700 to resolve the issue. They now allow you to go on Facebook or make a tweet on Twitter.

Are the network administrators so hateful toward Facebook that they block it off? Or maybe they may be at an age that they hate the new generation of the Internet. I think this qualifies for my library and my school district I reside in.

WWPM Online Bulletin: May 28, 2009

A Memorial Day To Remember In Charlotte
For those who usually watch the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend, you were given a little surprise on Memorial Day. Because of a Sunday rain-out, the race was pushed to Monday. The longest race in the Sprint Cup would be pounded with rain all day, but after four cautions including three red flags during the downpouring in the Charlotte area, NASCAR would name Michael Waltrip Racing driver David Reutimann (00) the winner after the weather just wouldn't cooperate. Reutimann's win just put him within a handful of points away from 12th place in the point standings.

MIT OpenCourseWare
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has posted "online" classes on their website. It may look more like the instructor syllabus and student notes, but it gives you the feel of the class, whether online or structured, without taking the class online or in the classroom. The program, known as MIT OpenCourseWare, brings the classroom to you without the expense of school.

You can check it out at http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/courses/index.htm.

WorldWide Publications & Media Corporate Update
Earlier this month, WWPM began subcontractor work for SYNTECHS doing warranty-covered work on LCD/plasma televisions, personal computers and printers. May revenue will be $110 due to a slow month and a late start.

With the digital transition deadline for television stations being June 12, 2009 (15 days to go!), there may be technical issues for those who purchase HD and plasma televisions who may discover technical issues, but at least 10% of all VISIO televisions and between 10% and 14% for other brands have issues such as sound or worse off, a damaged part. We can do this for you, but you have to contact the manufacturer. They have to contact SYNTECHS, who will send a local technician to work on your problem. WWPM normally covers a 40-mile radius of Nokomis, Illinois, but SYNTECHS can request for WWPM to work a job outside the area (e.g. Chicago or St. Louis). Please do not call WWPM directly to fix the issues! The issue has to go through the right extensions before it gets to us.

Press Release: 10:30 AM - May 9, 2009

PRESS RELEASE

Subcontractor Work Begins With Synergy Technical Solutions Corporation (d.b.a. SYNTECHS)

WorldWide Publications & Media’s answer to help customers with LCD TVs, plasma TVs, PC’s and printer problems.

Nokomis, IL, May 9, 2009:

WorldWide Publications & Media is now receiving subcontractor work through Boca Raton, FL-based Synergy Technical Solutions Corporation, otherwise known as SYNTECHS, starting immediately. The opportunity arose despite a budgeting shortfall and WWPM president & CEO Jake Leonard couldn’t resist accepting such a responsibility.

In a press conference yesterday, Leonard announced that it was well appreciated to gain some work in a slow time in the economy and the current status of WWPM’s 2009-10 budget, in which the last day of the budget year is March 31, 2010. The incoming revenue through this subcontractor work will help build for the 2010-11 fiscal year and extend future programs and a possible retail location in Nokomis.

Although this business relationship is only starting, the uttermost important thing is keeping this business relationship. It might be subcontractor work, but it proves there are work opportunities out there.

SYNTECHS is a nationwide provider of innovative, efficient technical business solutions at a very reasonable cost. They have technicians from all over the country that work in a 30-35 mile radius of their home that does warranty (and at times, out-of-warranty) work on LCD & plasma televisions, PCs (both desktop and laptop) and printers. Other work, such as web design and hosting, are usually done by the main staff at SYNTECHS. If you would like to learn more about SYNTECHS, you can go to their website at

http://www.syntechs.com.

PR Note:

Please do not call WorldWide Publications & Media regarding this work. The work is assigned by SYNTECHS as given by the warrantied manufacturer. The work cannot skip through those two levels and given to me. Consumers experiencing issues regarding their LCD and plasma televisions, PCs and printers need to contact the manufacturer and SYNTECHS at 1-800-796-8324.

An Achievement Well Deserved: A Syndicated Writer Classification

Press Conference Transcript:
Jake Leonard, Executive Editor-In-Chief, PYIR SportsCenter: My dear readers, if you haven't heard of Bleacher Report, now might be a time to do so. If you may have not heard, I have been a writer there not even two days (and only three articles written, although I had another account before it was deleted) and now I'm a Syndicated Writer.

Roscoe Filkins, Huffington Post: What does it mean when you're classified a Syndicated Writer?

Leonard: It means that there is a chance, if my article is good enough, it may be referred to sites such as CBS Sports, FOX Sports and Google News. Next question.

Jonathan Blumke, independent writer: Does this writing syndication only cover you or anyone else?

Leonard: Since this is an individual account and not one on behalf of PYIR SportsCenter, it only covers any articles that I write. I may occasionally allow some guests posts on my behalf. Anyone who wishes to guest post for my Bleacher Report can email me at pyirsportsdesk@gmail.com and put down "Bleacher Report Guest Post" on the Subject line. Next question.

Jacob Tupper, independent writer: Will you be covering any local games, particularly high school sports?

Leonard: I'm still working on staff for PYIR SportsCenter and yes, when we get the staff in line, we will cover local sports at a full-scale level, including regional and national sports. Right now, these are volunteer positions, so we will have to rely on paying sponsors.

Tupper: Follow-up question. What if someone wants to join your writing team for PYIR SportsCenter or if a prospective sponsor wants to donate funds to help with ongoing maintenance or just perhaps just paying to be a sponsor?

Leonard: You can email me at the email address I specified earlier and put "PYIR SportsCenter Writer Inquiry" in the subject line. I would prefer blogging experience of at least two years and covered sports at least one year. As for the sponsor inquiry, we have an official sponsorship link on our parent website. The donation link will be linked to PayPal. For other sponsorship information or to ask about sponsorship and/or advertising, you need to email the PYIR Advertising & Circulation Office at pyiradvandcirc@gmail.com and put "Sponsorship/Advertising Inquiry" in the Subject line. One more question and I need to leave.

Kelsey Jackson, independent writer: Are you a little concerned that this Syndicated Writer status might backfire on either your behalf or that of the Bleacher Report?

Leonard: There was only one requirement that I knew of: write an article for editorial analysis and if it was good enough, you got the status. Thank you for the questions and this press conference is over. Thank you for coming.

NOTE: Jake Leonard's Bleacher Report can be viewed at http://bleacherreport.com/users/104421-Jake-Leonard.

March Madness Update and Some Other Stuff

March Madness 2009 - March 23, 2009 Update

For those who were doing their brackets and following mine at the same time on ESPN's Tournament Challenge and any tournament challenges on Facebook, my bracket has performed well.

The only issues were the following:
  • Six first round losses: Ohio State, Clemson, Utah, West Virginia, Florida State and Wake Forest
  • Two second round losses: Texas A&M and Maryland
This results my bracket leading into the Regionals to 39-8. Pittsburgh, Louisville and UNC (my three remaining 1st seed picks) still are in my path to victory, including my 3rd seed Syracuse. Any comments on my bracket? Email PYIR SportsCenter at pyirsportsdesk@gmail.com.

WorldWide Publications & Media Update:
Last week, I mentioned on the last blog post that we started a beta-mode online television station. Since the FCC cannot regulate online television, that's one less red tape to cut through. We currently have a composite preview through Mogulus. You can preview the present autopiloted broadcast at http://www.mogulus.com/wwpmtelevision.

Also mentioned is the live stream (temporarily dormant) video of the WWPM-OR studios. You can view that online at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/wwpm-radio-live-online-feed.

WWPM Radio Network has had some technical issues with their current broadcaster through uBroadcast. A technical support email has been sent to uBroadcast to analyze the problem and if a compatible player can be utilized for Windows Media, RealPlayer and Quicktime media players.
